Do you want to predict the future? By reading and discussing some of the best fiction written in England over the last twenty years, we aim to discover the Classics of the Future. Titles will include Minaret by L Aboulela, A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson and Elmet by Fiona Mozeley.

Course aim

The course aims to assess and discuss some of the best fiction written in England over the last 20 years, and to discuss the possible classics of the future.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • show knowledge of contemporary writing.
  • have confidence in discussion about contemporary literature.
  • better judge recent writing as a result of increased knowledge on the subject.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will engage in class discussion, and if you'd like you can prepare some work to share with the class on particular subjects which interest you.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

  • Bring a general interest of the subject!
