This course will explore key female artists and designers across art history and the world. We will learn about women's struggles to study and make art and be recognised as part of the artistic canon, look at pioneers who have shaped the discipline, and discover how female artists have used the arts to tackle women's issues of their day.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • By the end of the course, I will have learned about key female artists and designers across world art history
  • By the end of the course, I will have explored the context that has shaped women's participation in the arts
  • By the end of the course, I will have learned about art in different cultural traditions and historic eras

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • You may find it helpful to bring along a notebook and pen so you can make notes for yourself
