In the mid-19th century, a few artists in England decided to challenge the artistic establishment and reject the order and rationality of the Renaissance artist, Raphael, who had been held up as a model for all to follow. This talk will look at the three artists central to the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and how some of their ideas were adopted by many other artists in the latter part of the century.

Course aim

A look at some of the ideas that inspired members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in the mid-19th century, and how these influenced their artistic output.
