At a time when life around us has changed significantly, we will explore a range of examples of paintings to provide parallels, comparisons and contrasts. Paintings from the Renaissance to the 20th century will be included. Fully illustrated with discussion.

Course aim

At a time when life around us has changed significantly, we will explore a range of examples of paintings to provide parallels, comparisons and contrasts.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the material studied
  • Discuss and analyse a range of examples of paintings which illustrate the theme discussed
  • Consider the work within its chronological context
  • Relate the examples discussed to a wider context of situations
  • Make contrasts and comparisons between examples

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook and pen may be of use for making notes

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
