This course will teach you how to make healthy food choices with the aim to improve your health and the health of your family. We will look at the best ingredients for nutrition and how to use them in your cooking

Course aim

To give students a better understanding of healthy ingredients and how to use them in recipes to improve their own and their families diets

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify good quality Proteins, carbohydrates and fats
  • Identify healthy nutritious ingredients
  • Give two examples of changes that could be made for a more healthy diet

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • This lesson will take place on Zoom and will involve, class discussion and tutor presentation

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. If you’d like to understand more Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec
  • A pen and paper would be useful for taking notes

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
