If you are a beginner and need help getting started on a computer, or need to improve your current basic computing skills then explore our Computing for Beginners course to get you started on your journey. This is a non-accredited course and a practical and flexible way of improving your ICT skills using Office 2010.

Course aim

This course is suitable for learners who have never used a computer before and want to build up their confidence in using a computer.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to confidently switch on and shut down a computer safely.
  • Gain an understanding of how to use a Word Processing application and have the ability to enter text and format a document.
  • Demonstrate learnt skills to confidently use the internet to search for information.
  • Using skills learnt, confidently use a computer to communicate via email.
  • Demonstrate learnt skills by having the ability to send emails to family and friends and attach files or photos.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • When attending a WEA session learners can bring the following equipment if they wish a writing pen and pad to take independent notes.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
