Let's get creative! Learn about the different media used in art. Enjoy a taster pencil work, using shapes as a starting point and apply different textures and tones, and may be use a different medium to enhance your piece of art. Learn that different media can be used on your painting.The choice is yours entirely.

Course aim

to provide a brief introduction to the principles of creative art, what it entails and so forth. This could be about drawing and using different media to bring it alive. It could also be a collage or pebble decorating.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English
  • extremely suitable for individuals with physical/mental* health issues

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • continue/to identify my own personal skills in art
  • learn the basic techniques used in watercolour
  • learn that additional media can be used with/over* watercolour.
  • add texture to your drawing using a range of equipment - eg a dart, graphite pencils, colouring pencils

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You are most welcome to bring in your own picture/photograph/still life to draw and paint

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • If the opportunity arises, you may be asked to exhibit your work. However, this is entirely your choice.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • You are more than welcome to bring in your own equipment.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • Resources will be provided

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • You may want to join our Creative art group which is on Thursday afternoons and learn even more.
