This session will explore some of the less familiar aspects of Monet’s work such as his pencil and pastel sketches and place them within the wider context of his work and his role as a key member of the Impressionist group of artists. Fully illustrated with discussion.

Course aim

This session will explore some of the less familiar aspects of Monet’s work such as his pencil and pastel sketches and place them within the wider context of his work.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the material studied
  • Analyse a wide range of examples of paintings by Monet
  • Realise how prolific Monet was and the different types of work he produced
  • Understand the artist’s role in the Impressionist movement
  • Consider the importance of light in all of the work which Monet produced

How will I be taught?

  • A notebook and pen may be useful for making notes

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
