Life in Leicester - Part 2

This course is intended to improve students’ knowledge of customs and practices in the UK. Sessions with a range of activities will help students understand: Health topics such as: Find your way in the hospital, going into hospital and talking about illness. Everyday activities such as: Health and safety, Fire and Safety - Is it an emergency? Information about employability topics such reading jobs adverts, job roles and responsibilities and employment rights and responsibilities.

Course aim

The course aims to teach students about living in Leicester and the UK.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To understand common symbols used on fire action signs.
  • Understand how to report emergencies and non-emergencies in an appropriate manner.
  • Begin to build on vocabulary related to hospitals.
  • Understand a limited number of words relating to job adverts.
  • Begin to develop an awareness of employment rights.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
