Let's get creative! Learn about the different media used in art. Enjoy a taster of fine line pen work and may be add watercolour to your piece of art. Learn that collage is part of creative art and paints could be used to compliment your piece of art. Making greeting cards could be for you too and decorating pebbles. The choice is yours entirely.

Course aim

to provide a brief introduction to the principles of creative art, what it entails and so forth. This could be about drawing and using different media to bring it alive. It could also be a collage or pebble decorating.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English
  • This taster course is also for people with physical and mental disabilities. You will be guided and supported in what you want to achieve. You will be able to identify your special preference.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • identify my own personal skills in art
  • be more confident and practise new creative skills
  • develop my skills in drawing basic shapes as the starting point for creating a drawing
  • develop my creativity through the use of collage

How will I be taught?

  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Bring in any pictures/photographs or creative ideas with you on the day. We all like to share different ideas.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • one to one feedback and group feedback -suggestions are always made if you so wish, to discuss your work and how you can make progression. With your permission, I like to take photographs of your work and it is posted on the WEA website.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • You may search for new ideas which you may bring to the group. We are always open to new ideas.

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • You may want to join our Creative art group which is on Thursday afternoons and learn even more.

  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
