Join Alison for this fun introduction to basic ukulele playing for complete beginners or rusty novices. We will learn a how to hold the ukulele, how to strum and some basic first chords and we'll use these to play a few simple songs & sing along. Ukulele playing & singing together is a great boost to wellbeing. Alison has been playing and teaching ukulele for 8 years and enjoys bringing people together with this happy instrument.
Course aim
A fun introduction to basic ukulele playing for complete beginners or rusty novices. We will learn a how to hold the ukulele, how to strum and some basic first chords and we'll use these to play a few simple songs & sing along.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Correctly hold a ukulele and name the different parts of the instrument.
- Strum effectively.
- Play 3 - 5 new chords
- Play and sing some simple songs.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- I have a some ukuleles for you to use but if you have one at home gathering dust, then bring it along!
