Is Deep Thinking Dead?

Ref: C2342957

Without mentioning the obvious, recent political and public debate has become depressingly antagonistic, formulaic and opinionated. Attitudes are struck instantly and easily, with complex issues often reduced to sound bites. As engaged citizens, we urgently need to think beyond statements and slogans to the questions that underlie them. This session will explore two or three topics of our time in ‘slow motion’. The hope is that we will also discover some of the pleasures of thinking below the surface.

Course aim

The workshop session will identify contemporary examples of 'depth-less' political and public discourse. It will then explore what it means to think slowly and deeply about a select number of topics.
