This taster session will help students understand key aspects of the work of a community interpreter and decide if they would like to do an accredited Level 1 Community Interpreting course.
Course aim
This taster session will help students decide if they would like to work as a community interpreter. Students will reflect on existing skills and identify some skills that need developing.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Describe three places where a community interpreter might work
- Identify 3 situations where a community interpreter would be useful
- List three essential skills required by a community interpreter
How will I be taught?
- You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed
- All materials will be provided
