use various strategies to express myself, by attempting to draw still life of my choice, using different shapes and forms as a starting point. I could also attempt some more challenging tasks, may be to take me out of my comfort zone. No demands will be made on me. Whatever you choose to create, I will get support . The choice is entirely yours and remains completely non-judgemental. There are a selection of photos/pictures for me to choose from. I can also produce a collage, paint face masks, decorate pebbles. etc

Course aim

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • learn to draw using different shapes and forms to draw anything of your choice.
  • mix primary colours to obtain secondary colours and mixing a primary colour with a secondary colour to obtain tertiary colours. use tint, shade and tone to discover different colours and applying them to make the painting look 3D
  • to use neoprene, tissue paper, buttons, felt etc to produce a collage and use of posca pens/felt tips as an alternative of paint.
  • use different strength of pencils to shade drawing, to make it look 3D; learn that pencil/pen line work can be used to obtain different tones.
  • learn about the psychology of colours and to associate colours to our emotions and feelings.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You may want to complete your piece of art at home. The choice is yours entirely. It is always good to practise and you are most welcome to take home a picture you may want to draw.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • You will be encouraged to bring a picture/photo of your choice and paint it or simply use a pencil to shade it. Reflect on the work done in the class and write a few notes for yourself (if you are unable to write, please ask tutor for assistance). The tutor will gladly support you.
