Creative Card Making for the Summer

Make some bright and colourful cards for the summer season using a wide variety of techniques, including stamping, creative ideas with stencils, backgrounds, rocking and fun-fold cards, and achieving a shabby chic/vintage look.

Course aim

Enjoy a relaxing and creative experience in a friendly and supportive group environment. Learn new skills that will build confidence in the use of tools and materials and designing a variety of projects to be shared with family and friends.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to create a stamped 'one sheet wonder' that can be used for cards or box making.
  • Using skills learnt, create colourful backgrounds using Distress Oxide inks and an old credit/store card.
  • Understand how to create layered stencil techniques.
  • Demonstrate how to construct and decorate some fun fold cards, including a rocking card and a pretty flower pot card.
  • Understand how to create a vintage/distressed look for shabby chic cards.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Some basic tools and materials are available in class, and a list of items to bring will be provided. The tutor will discuss additional materials during the classes.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
