Yoga for Pregnancy

This course is suitable for women from 15 weeks of pregnancy. We will work on a range of movements for all stages of pregnancy and prepare for labour and childbirth using relevant movement working with both breath and sound. The tutor is able too to work with backache, pelvic instability, carpel tunnel syndrome and any 'aches and pains' that arise in pregnancy.

Course aim

This course will work on yoga movements suitable both for pregnancy and labour. The role of the breath will be an integral part of the course in preparation for labour.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to practice a range of yoga movements suitable for pregnancy;
  • Understand how to practice a range of yoga movements relevant to labour and childbirth;
  • Understand how to practice the breathing technique suitable both for pregnancy, labour and childbirth.
  • Gain an understanding of mindfulness breathing meditation.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A yoga mat and firm pillow.
