Botanical Spring Workshop

This is an introduction and exploration of botanical drawing and painting spring plants. You will be taught traditional drawing and water colour painting techniques and encouraged to develop your own style. During the day we will experiment with various methods of drawing and painting to create a simple composition. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced students.

Course aim

This one day course aims to provide learners with the skills to observe, draw and paint spring plants. Using traditional techniques. Learners will be encouraged to develop creatively and artistically.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Observe and draw plants and flowers in detail.
  • Show form and perspective in drawings and paintings.
  • Use traditional techniques to draw and paint spring plants.
  • Produce a new piece of work using information learnt at the workshop.
  • Work on a project in a class situation and share ideas with other students.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Students should bring their own materials if possible but there will be some available on the day

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
