Confidence Building and Anxiety Management

Each week will allow students to build their confidence in themselves, initially through use of and awareness of use of language, goal setting, reframing limiting beliefs into more productive and positive ones, supporting each other to achieve small personal goals. And if you or someone you care for suffers with anxiety and are looking for new ways of learning to cope, this course is for you. It will aim to equip people with the skills to manage anxiety on a day-to-day basis, so that they can continue to enjoy life and flourish.

Course aim

To build confidence through various tools, to explore how anxiety affects the mind & body, how to change anxious thinking cycles & relax more. If you'd like to know how to deal with overwhelming feelings & generalised anxiety, this course is for you.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how the words I use can impact on my confidence.
  • Set goals to work towards that will build my confidence.
  • Understand how my thoughts and believes impact on my confidence and anxiety and how to replace these with more productive ones.
  • Learn positive techniques for self-management of our thoughts and responses.
  • Develop personalised coping strategies to work along side self-management of thoughts, which will help us move forward.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation

  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
