Buying and Selling Online

The course will provide students with the confidence to use the internet independently for online buying and selling. They will be able to browse for goods and services on several websites, check stock availability and reserve items for collection. They will learn how to set up a PayPal account and make purchases using this method. Students will also learn how to market products for sale, writing descriptions and taking photographs to advertise them on the internet. Students will be able to set up online accounts for websites in order that they may use them to buy and sell goods and services. This is a fun course in a safe environment and students work in groups to share learning.

Course aim

This course is designed to enable students to make online purchases and sell goods on the internet.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of how to browse websites to view products and services.
  • Understand how to set up a PayPal account.
  • Using the skills learnt, make at least one online purchase.
  • Independently write an advertisement to market an item.
  • Using the skills learnt, advertise at least two items for sale on the internet.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
