Microsoft Office Skills - Excel (spreadsheets) Level 1

To provide you with the required knowledge and understanding to enable you to start to use Microsoft Excel to create and format spreadsheets and also to be able to create graphs and charts.

Course aim

The main aim of this course is to help you to gain skills and confidence with using Microsoft Excel and to be able to create a spreadsheet and use formulae and functions, as well as charts.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to identify and use spreadsheet and graph software correctly. 
  • Understand how to use an input device to enter and edit data accurately. 
  • Demonstrate how to insert, replicate and format arithmetical formulae. 
  • Understand how to use common numerical formatting and alignment. 
  • Understand how to manage and print spreadsheet documents along with graph and chart documents.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • You might want to bring your own notebook and pen to make additional notes on things learnt in class.
