The Big Art Debate: Part 2

Ref: C2342637

Each session will be a discussion or debate about a particular theme or aspect of art, posed as a question. Topics are yet to be decided, but there is scope students to suggest some, which could be topical, perhaps relating to current exhibitions, events or even a contentious opinion piece in the media. Relevant images and background material will be provided by the tutor, but students are welcome to bring in and share material they may have or have researched.

Course aim

Why, down the ages, have artists painted self-portraits? The course will debate a range of intriguing questions - selected by both tutor and students - concerning art and art history.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify and describe connections between different works of art and artists.
  • Place works of art in a broader context (social, political etc).

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources
