Ref: C2342631

Whatever subject you are interested in painting, this class will help you to focus on developing the skills you need. You will be taught the principles of painting in watercolour, technique, colour mixing, composition and encouraged to develop them at your own pace and in your own style.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to provide you with general instruction and the skills necessary to be able to paint with watercolour and to help you to apply the skills you learn in your own painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw and sketch ready for painting.
  • Make a good composition of a subject.
  • Mix colours accurately and/or creatively.
  • Use watercolour paint to make a painting.
  • Evaluate my progress by critiquing my own work.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • No homework is 'set' but the tutor will suggest activities to practise at home and you will be encouraged to practice in your own time.rate of progress will be affected by how much practise you can do. The tutor will take time to look at and evaluate what you have done.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • The file of work will be organised and kept by you; a portfolio of work so to speak. It is optional but advised, in order for you to monitor your progress and to keep notes on technique etc.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Some materials and equipment supplied by WEA. should you want to use your own, a materials list is available from Derby WEA office. A drawing board would be useful and you will need paper and pencils for first session. You will need to bring photos or something to work from week to week.
