Gain more confidence and knowledge in French language communication. Develop your skills in narrating events, expressing different points of view and using present, past and future tenses in everyday life situations; and improve your reading and understanding of written texts. Explore diverse French culture aspects.

Course aim

To develop communication in everyday situations using more complex sentences and structures (past, present and futures time-frames)and increase vocabulary in speaking, listening, reading and writing; increase knowledge of French culture.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Two years’ previous study or equivalent experience of the language required

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Speak with more vocabulary and sentence patterns knowledge.
  • Answer and ask unprepared questions whether in a conversation or after an article of news.
  • Listen, understand and describe main points of passages on familiar matters or current affairs.
  • Read, understand and explain texts or articles not always on a familiar topic.
  • write a summary or a translation of what is read.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing anticipated, but if there is anything else, it will be discussed in class.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
