Kniting & Crochet - Specialist Techniques

On this course students will work on both knitting and crochet to learn some of the more specialist techniques such as cable, fair isle and entrelac in knitting plus Tunisian, broomstick lace, and mosaic crochet techniques

Course aim

To provide an introduction to some of the more technical aspects of both knitting and crochet to build upon existing skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Knit a cable pattern
  • Work with colour to knit a fair isle pattern
  • Crochet using the tunisian method
  • Work in mosaic crochet
  • Follow knitting and crochet patterns

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will need to bring 4.5mm crochet hook, a pair of 4mm knitting needles, scissors, and stitch markers. Yarn will be available to use in class for the projects however, if students with to bring their own double knitting yarn they are welcome to

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Some students from previous courses have gone on to sell the things they have made through local craft fairs
