Cake Decoration Basket of Flowers

Students will make a basket of flowers by learning how to pipe with royal icing a basket weave and making a variety of flowers to put in their basket

Course aim

To use a variety of methods and materials to produce a finished decorated cake. The main purpose is how to make a variety of flowers, and how to cover a cake with different icing, ie sugar paste, butter cream and royal icing

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • make royal icing
  • piping a basket weave
  • making roses
  • making a variety of flowers suitable to put in the basket
  • making a basket

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will need to bring their own materials and equipment. The cost for the duration of the course will be about £25 to £30 depends where the items are bought from

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
