This course is suitable for all; we will work with a range of yoga postures: standing, sitting, lying and inverted. Each student is encouraged to work at their own level. We will practice a 7-Way Stretch each week, work with Salute to the Sun as well as finish each session with pranayama (specific yoga breathing exercise), mindfulness meditation and a guided relaxation. Students should come away feeling, stretched, relaxed, uplifted and with a sense of stillness.

Course aim

This is a yoga course suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with experience. Each session will be adapted to the needs of the individual. The ethos of the course will be mind, body and breath working together.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Independently practice a range of yoga movements seated, standing, lying and inverted;
  • Independently practice the 7-Way Stretch for the term;
  • Independently practice the pranayama (breathing exercise) for the term;
  • Independently practice mindfulness breathing meditation;
  • Independently practice the guided relaxation.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Relevant handouts will be available to take away for home practice.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • There are mats available at Wesley Hall, however, if you have your own yoga mat you may prefer to bring it.
