Microsoft Office Skills - Word and Powerpoint Beginners

The topics covered in this course will be: getting familiar with the computer, hardware and software, identifying the icons, use of the mouse and keyboard skills. You will use Microsoft Word to create, save and format documents. You will learn how to use PowerPoint to create presentations and run slide shows to be able to present to an audience. Learn how to insert images to your documents and presentations to enhance them.

Course aim

You will gain confidence in creating documents, saving, printing, editing and formatting, inserting pictures and improving document presentation. You will be able to create simple PowerPoint presentations.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • No skills or experience is needed although you will progress at a quicker pace if you already have mouse and keyboard skills.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a document, using the mouse and keyboard and be able to save and print it.
  • Insert and image to a document.
  • Format a document, set the page margins and orientation.
  • Use PowerPoint to create slides in a presentation.
  • Use first level and second level bullets, insert images and use footers.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A notebook and pen to make notes while you are learning.
