The best way to achieve a healthy lifestyle is to eat healthily. We look at well loved recipes and decide on how we can reduce the fat, sugar or salt intake. We also try to introduce vegetarian alternatives. Learners can suggest their own favourite meals for us to attempt. Each meal must be planned and shopped for. Every week 2 learners will accompany me to a grocers to purchase the ingredients which helps them gain confidence in real life situations. Once back in the kitchen, everyone learns basic food hygiene principles and prepare the food for cooking. Safety is important so learners learn how to use the cooker and hob and practice knife skills under supervision. Everyone loves the opportunity to make a meal for themselves and friends to enjoy.
