Mindfulness

We will learn techniques that can be practiced in the classroom and then taken home to work with. This will include the concept and meaning of mindfulness and how this can fit into everyday living on a daily basis. Also working with mindfulness meditation and yoga postures that can be practiced with mindfulness at home.

Course aim

This course will look at mindfulness in action, how to bring mindfulness into everyday life and thus enhance day to day living and general well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice mindfulness breathing meditation.
  • Practice mindfulness yoga movements.
  • Practice at least two mindfulness breathing techniques at home.
  • Practice the body scan.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • Relevant handouts will be given out.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • We will work individually, in pairs and as a group.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Bring the work of the course into everyday life.
