Creative Craft

This course will enable students to enjoy exploring a variety of craft techniques including marbling, modelling, paper-craft, collage, jar-craft, painting, scrap-booking and paper weaving to produce attractive pieces of unique artwork. Students will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of decorative techniques using a wide variety of materials. The course will be inspired by two themes, 'Pictures and Patterns' and 'Seasonal Celebrations'. Projects will include greetings cards, pieces of 2D and 3D decorative artwork and items suitable for gifts.

Course aim

To introduce students to a variety of crafts and to encourage the development of practical and creative skills by using a selection of techniques and materials to provide imaginative 2D and 3D artwork

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce a 3D diorama greeting card
  • Make a decorative booklet with 'marbled' cover
  • Create a piece of artwork inspired by pictures and patterns in stained glass windows
  • Design and make seasonal items including a tea-light holder and 3 different paper decorations
  • Produce a 3D piece of seasonal artwork using dough-craft modelling and painting techniques

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • The tutor can provide all equipment and materials for a charge of £2.00 per session, payable on the day. All artwork can be taken home.
