Mindfulness Yoga 1

The course will cover a variety of asanas (yoga postures) seated, lying, standing and inverted. Each session will be adapted to the needs of the individual - everyone will be able to work at their own level. The breath is key in yoga and this will be the underlying ethos, breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation and relaxation will be integral to the course.

Course aim

This course is for those with experience as well as absolute beginners, we will work with a range of yoga movements with the breath being key. Each session will finish with a short meditation and a guided relaxation.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice the 7-way stretch for the term.
  • Be familiar with Salute to the Sun.
  • Be familiar with the breathing exercise for the term.
  • Be familiar with the mindfulness meditation.
  • Be familiar with yoga nidra (guided relaxation).

How will I be taught?

  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Relevant handouts will be given out.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a mat and a block (the latter can be purchase from the tutor if necessary).

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
