The course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to make a creative response to the theme of Autumn into winter. Developing skills and knowledge in the use of different materials and techniques. Cut, fold,stick and print. Working from two dimensions into three dimensions. Building on printing skills and repeat pattern making.

Course aim

Design and make a range of art and design work based on the theme of Autumn into Winter through the exploration of different media and techniques. Cut, fold, stick, and print.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Show how to measure, cut and construct with accuracy
  • Explain what the difference is between random and reapeated patterns
  • Demonstrate how to design and make a three dimensional constructed item
  • Describe how you have selected and applied colour, texture and pattern in your work
  • Name the different materials you have used in your work and why you did it

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • There will be books,visual material and tablets you can use as part of your idea development
