Sic Transit Gloria Mundi

Ref: C2341923

This short day-school will examine Latin inscriptions; the Roman examples we see in museums, the Medieval types we find in churches and the 'everyday' ones like those found on crests today. The presenters will look at simple examples and try to show how to decode what we see and help students to make sense of what was written and what was meant by it. Illustrated.

Course aim

This short day-school will look at Latin inscriptions, Roman examples, Medieval church use and post-Medieval inscriptions of the kind we see everyday. The course presenters will attempt to explain some of the terms we seen and how to decode them.
