This course will explore a range of art and artists to establish an understanding of the ways we perceive Art and respond to it. A selection of famous/popular paintings will be used to consider the ways in which Art becomes part of our cultural consciousness. Fully illustrated with discussion.

Course aim

This course will explore a range of art and artists to establish an understanding of the ways we perceive Art and respond to it.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the material studied
  • Describe the art chronological context
  • Explore the background to a selection of popular paintings
  • Discuss and analyse a range of examples of paintings
  • Realise the significance of changing art movements and styles

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook and pen may be useful for taking notes

Pre-course work, reading and information sources
