The day will provide the opportunity to explore and create sculpture using wire and modroc. We will develop an idea for the sculpture through discussion and drawing Using artists’ work for inspiration including Elizabeth Frink, Anthony Gormley and Barbara Hepworth for Example.

Course aim

The day aims to create a sculpture using wire and modroc. We will explore artists work such as Elizabeth Frink, Anthony Gormley and Evelyn’s Galinski as examples.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss at least 3 key ideas through artists’ work
  • Draw initial ideas as a design to inform the sculpture
  • Make a wire structure
  • Create a sculpture using modroc

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The day will be based on practical activities

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • materials can be provided at a cost of £4 for each student. Please bring any visual ideas for example photos or images if you want.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
