This term we will be using an most interesting anthology: Poetry 180, a Turning Back to Poetry, selected by one of America's most popular poets, Billy Collins. when he was Poet Laureate of the United States. We will read the poems, aloud (if you are happy to) and silently, before discussing them to find different interpretations and also look at the construction of the poem. I will add biographical details of the poets. This a very friendly class. I aim to create a relaxed atmosphere in which students feel comfortable to share their ideas - there's always more than one way to interpret a good poem! You don't have to have read poetry before; an open mind and life experience are useful.
