Tai Chi and Health Qigong for Health and Relaxation Level 2

This beneficial way to exercise combines both body movement and mental stimulation. It also helps posture and co-ordination. The gentle slow movements energise the body without putting undue strain on joints and muscles. Practised regularly will help to achieve stress and tension and increase a sense of well being. This course is to extend the students knowledge of Tai Chi and Health Qigong.

Course aim

To maintain fitness, aid relaxation and improve techniques and performance in Tai Chi and Health Qigong forms. Through regular practice progress towards achieving better health.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for anyone who has recent 12+ months experience of 24 Yang style Tai Chi.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Undertake safe warm up and cool down
  • Explain at least 3 Tai Chi principles
  • Complete all sections of 24 Yang style Tai Chi and Tai Ji Yang Sheng Zhang (Tai Chi stick)
  • Explore various sets of Health Qigong and understand the benefits of Chinese medicine
  • Practise relaxation techniques.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be encouraged to follow the tutor and work within the group. You will also be encouraged to lead the group.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • Occasional handouts will be offered to aid progress and understanding.

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear loose comfortable clothing. Flat comfortable footwear, not just socks. You may wish to bring a drink.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • The tutor will give free website addresses to improve practice. The tutor will also give guidance on reading material, DVD's or CD's if requested.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • Continued practice helps maintain levels of fitness, balance and co-ordination to improve health.
