In this course you will learn how to make clothes that fit. This course is suitable for all levels.We will develop sewing machine skill from basic to advance level.You will alter, how to make pattern adjustment to correspond with required measurements.Students will develop skills that will enable them to consider other pathways and opportunities.

Course aim

To develop skills in sewing by using various strategies, techniques and methods and to inspire students to create unique garments. To build confidence and to become more independent in making their own garments.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • safe use of machine and stitches.
  • Learn to develop a pattern from scratch.
  • Measure, prepare and cut fabric correctly
  • Embellishment / creativity skill
  • Construction of garment

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • One to one feedback and group feedback will be provided.You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • sewing machines will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you would prefer practicing on it. You can also bring your own sewing kit and thread. You will also need to bring your own fabric for you own garment but materiel be provided for the practice samples.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
