International reading and creative writing in one fun course

This course offers interactive friendly sessions in which participants will be exposed to a variety of works by writers from different countries, sharing their opinions and ideas in discussions and fun activities. Participants will also explore their writing skills in different types of writing creating their own works.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to engage the participants in activities which will encourage the habit of reading, inviting them to explore the works of authors from all over the world, and boost their confidence in writing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • No skills or experience needed
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
  • • No skills or experience needed. Participants will be asked to read/write some short stories/poems, provided by the tutor.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • explore own writing skills,
  • read books written by writers from various countries,
  • apply the benefits of continuous reading and writing practice.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • Most of your learning will take place in your class, but one or two sessions will be online using WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, working by yourself or engaging with other students.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • • You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class • Activities may include tutor presentation, small group work, working in pairs, class discussions, short tasks

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas.   • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • • A pen/pencil and a notebook.
