A progression course from Beginners Digital Skills to enable further skills to be gained in word processing, web searches and digital images to produce a Digital Story for publication on a Blog website.

Course aim

To take part in a unique opportunity to research and write creatively on a subject of your choice to produce a Digital Story using word processing, digital cameras and the internet. Results will be published on a Blog page.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Research and creative writing on a subject of your choice eg. a sport, hobby, local history.
  • Internet Searches - using Google and search engines to find and access information for creating your Digital Story.
  • Word Processing & File Management - learn how to create a document to record your Digital Story and create rudimentary filing system with folders and sub-folders.
  • Using Email to request information for your Digital Story and send progress reports to your Tutor.
  • Social Media and Blogs - upload your work to the Group Padlet page and finally work with your Tutor to transfer your work to the Digital Stories blog website.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Some handouts may be given but a notebook and pen would be useful.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
