This course will look at topic areas such as health, parenting, benefits and work and volunteering. The course will enable students to ask questions relating to specific topics and conduct research into these areas.

Course aim

The purpose of the course is to find out about organisations, support and advice available in the local area.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify organisations and the support available to assist with health issues.
  • Recognise how you can become a volunteer.
  • Explore ways in which benefits can be made available to people in your area.
  • Write 3 questions relating to parenting issues and discuss in the group.
  • Discover organisations and advice which can help you get into work.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
