Basic First Aid, from sticking plasters to CPR and the recovery position, how to assist before a trained First Aid Person or Paramedic arrives. Information to be obtained from a casualty for the Emergency Sevices and how to deal with different situations.

Course aim

This course is to give reassurance for basic first aid. Including recovery position, CPR, automated external defibillator, calling emergency services, poisons, different types of bleeding.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • demonstrate CPR correctly and how to use an automatic external defibrillator
  • demonstrate how to deal with an unconscious person and place in the recovery position.
  • determine how to give accurate information to the emergency services
  • recall how to deal with burns/poisons/bleeding
  • Apply differnt types of bandages

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Verbal feedback will be given during the practical tasks. Questions and answers.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Pen and Paper. There are a number of practical elements to be assessed, which will require laying on the floor, so practical comfortable clothing to be worn.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
