This course will help students to gain an understanding of money habits, money personalities, the difference between needs and wants, and plan for future purchases. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of using credit versus savings, exploring how different technology can be used to manage money and gaining the skills and understanding needed to prepare for the workplace, including payslips, budgeting and the difference between being self-employed and an employee.

Course aim

This 20 hour course will provide a starting point for students in helping them understand money habits and the importance of money management.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain money habits, money personalities, the difference between needs and wants, and plan for future purchases.
  • Recognise the advantages and disadvantages of using credit versus savings
  • Describe how different technology can be used to manage money
  • Develop the skills and understanding needed to prepare for the workplace, including payslips, budgeting and the difference between being self-employed and an employee.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Enrolment Conditions
