The life and times of Frida Kahlo

Ref: C2227023

Frida Kahlo made herself into an icon. Her instantly recognisable face now covers anything from t-shirts to keyrings. Her life story, filled with passion and suffering, is now more famous than her paintings. As a female, non-western artist focussing on self-portraiture she was a liminal figure in the art world. This study day will consider her paintings; concentrating on the complex inter-play of national, political and gender identity to explore how she became a central protagonist in 20th century art history.
