Explore the vibrant drama of the medieval period and early-sixteenth century. From the dramatic mystery plays to the often bawdy East Anglian plays, we will encounter saints, sinners and stage devils, as well as learning how to put on a play in Medieval East Anglia.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the vibrant and spectacular drama of the medieval period and early-sixteenth century.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify different styles of drama from around Britain.
  • Define what made East Anglian drama unique.
  • Discuss the lifestyles of professional entertainers in medieval East Anglia.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of drama within various East Anglian communities.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • You may like to bring note-taking equipment.
