Romantic string chamber music with Lucy Blunden

Come and share music, discussions and discoveries string chamber music, On this course you will be able to learn to play pieces with the group on musical instruments. As well as this we will listen to a classical composer's compositions and discuss. Where possible we will also watch a recording of a performance.

Course aim

Join a journey through the era, covering the lives of the composers, playing examples of the music and giving you "homework" to explore for yourself, should you wish to do so. Composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, and more.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • No musical instrument playing experience required.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Listen to and discuss examples of Romantic string chamber music
  • Identify recurrent themes within musical works
  • Identify musical techniques which demonstrate the Romantic era

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • You may wish to listen to string chamber music by Romantic composers such as Schubert, Brahms, Dvorak and Mendelssohn prior to the course starting.
