This course will look at the history of Norwich, once described as "the second city in the kingdom". it will consider its origins, events and activities which shaped the city, people who contributed to its development and the city's heritage as expressed in its historic streets, buildings and other sites.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the people, events and activities which have shaped Norwich; and a guide to the rich heritage of the city.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain elements of the existing cityscape
  • Recall some of the principal events and important people from the city’s past
  • Recognise and identify significant city buildings
  • List key industries from the city’s past

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
