in 1600 Britain was amongst the most peaceful of European nations yet within a lifetime it saw three civil wars and the first trial and execution of a king by his people. we will explore how this came to be identifying key individuals e.vents and forces. Much of what you may have been taught will prove to be at variance with what modern research has uncovered

Course aim

the course explains how England and Britain underwent a three civil wars at the start of the seventeenth century

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify some of the forces leading to civil war and revolution
  • Describe how the wars occured
  • identify key individuals in the events of those years

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
