Expressionism in Cinema

Ref: C2226605

German Expressionist art and cinema exerted a major influence on the development of film in terms of style, technique and subject matter and laid the foundations for a range of genres from Film Noir to American Gothic, Horror and Sci-Fi. Starting with early examples of Expressionist cinema, such as The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Nosferatu and Metropolis, we will go on to examine the influence of the movement on the work of later film makers such as Carol Reed, Alfred Hitchcock, Charles Laughton, Ridley Scott and Tim Burton.
