This course will enable the learner to learn basic art techniques, use of tone and colour ,to express issues related to identity/portraiture

Course aim

Students will learn basic art techniques and experiment with tone and colour to create expressive artworks related to identity/portraiture

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • No prior experience necessary but energy and enthusiasm a must!

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have used tone to create an artwork related to identity
  • Have used colour to create an artwork related to identity
  • Have used modroc to create a 3 dimensional representation
  • Demonstrated a clear understanding of proportion and scale in artworks
  • Developed my spiritual, physical and mental well being and my social skills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Students will be asked to extend learning by carrying out tasks related to the classroom projects

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Work produced is discussed and evaluated within the group

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • A pencil and an A2 sketchbook would be helpful although there may be some materials on site.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Students may want to research different types of media used to create portraits

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Anther course with the WEA or other providers
